Caniço · Madeira

Homemade Madeiran cooking, just like Mum's.

A small family restaurant on Estrada José Avelino Pinto in Caniço de Baixo, with a little sports bar in the corner for the locals. Andreia cooks the recipes she grew up with — proper Madeira, served at honest prices, for neighbours and visitors alike.

Our story

Born here, cooking here, since always.

Andreia grew up in Caniço, in a kitchen that always smelled of garlic, bay and wood smoke. Her grandmother taught her the dishes. Her mother taught her the patience. The recipes haven't changed.

The fish comes off the boats in the morning. The vegetables come from a neighbour's garden up the hill. Nothing fancy — just the real thing, made properly.

"I cook for my neighbours. If you sit down too, you're a neighbour now."

The room

Small room, big welcome.

Eight tables, wooden chairs, plants on every shelf. The wine is local. The bread comes out warm. There's a small sports bar in the corner — football and the big games are on for the locals.
